16 Steps to Pass the
Test
Before Test Day
-
Decide you will pay attention and listen in
class. No one can make you listen, you have to make that decision
for yourself.
-
Study
a little every day! Regularly review your notes and
handouts and make 3x5 note cards of the important
information.
-
Carry your note cards with you
and look them over whenever possible: lunch time, before
class, to and from school, evenings, waiting at the doctor or
dentist’s office, etc. Don’t waste
time.
-
Ask your teachers questions and
make clear any confusion. Don’t let it go
unresolved.
-
Do not cram! It is good to look
over your notes the night before the test, but this is not the time
to study, it is the time to refresh. Cramming is not
studying.
-
Select a few people to form a study group.
Then meet before the test go over the notes and quiz each other on
the material.
-
Rest. Get a good night’s
sleep.
Test Day
- Dress nice but
comfortable. It has been proven that sloppy dress creates
a sloppy mind. If you wear a uniform, all the better, make sure
it’s clean and in good repair. You should comb your hair, shave and
apply some deodorant to be at your very best.
- Eat breakfast. Eat
a light, nutritious breakfast because your body needs energy. There
is no excuse to make your body work without the proper fuel.
- Eat a light lunch.
If your test is after lunch, eat light. A heavy meal will rob your
brain of oxygen rich blood needed for the test. Tuna, chicken and
fruit would be good foods for lunch. However, avoid turkey, it will
make you sleepy.
- Be on time for the
test! Even early if possible. Don’t talk in the halls. Go
to the testing room and sit down. Take 3 deep cleansing breaths and
relax.
- Read every
question. Answer the ones you know off the top of your
head. Those you do not know immediately put a mark by them and skip
them. Work all the way through the test, then start over and do it
again 15-18% of the test will answer itself.
Your mind will be stretched by the processing of material.
Erase the marks as you answer the questions.
-
Keep
your mind moving. Go through the test as many times as
necessary but do not sit and dwell on any one question.
- Now read back over the
test. If there are still unanswered questions, read them
over a few times and write an answer.
- Do not leave
blanks! Take your best shot. Give as much info as
possible, especially on essay or short answer.
- Turn in your test.
When you have given all the info you can, and the time has expired
or all blanks are filled, turn the test in and walk away, with head
up, and conscience clear because
you did your best.
